Top Five Golfing Tips for Beginners

May 26, 2020 //  by Niamh//  2 Comments

Now is the best time for you and your family to get golfing with these golf tips for beginners! Not only can you learn a new sport, but golf is always a great way to get fresh air and enjoy the stunning views Holywell Bay has to offer. Our golf courses are open to all ages and abilities with no dress code and clubs to hire. If you are an absolute beginner, then check out of top golf tips below.

1. Check your alignment
Most right-handed people will naturally aim right, however that doesn’t always been the golf ball will go that way. Take time to align not only your feet, but your knees, hips and shoulders, not to mention the club face.

2. Posture makes perfect
Be sure to bend at the hip, not the waist. Make yourself solid and balanced before attempting a swing.

3. Get to grips with the grip
Place your weaker hand (left for right-handed golfer) at the top of the club with the right underneath. Many beginners think that the stronger hand should be at the top controlling the swing.

4. Take a swing at it
Imagine you’re skimming a stone or throwing a baseball, starting the movement with the lower body, with the upper body following.

5. Practice makes perfect
With many things, the more swings you can practise, the better you will become. Perhaps start with Pitch and Putt courses before moving onto the Par 3 course.

The most important golf tip for beginners is to just have fun and soon enough your competitiveness will have you mastering shots to beat your family. Discover our golf courses online before visiting and check out our Facebook page for lots more images.

March 19, 2020 //  by Niamh//  Leave a Comment

Following recent advice from the Government on the response to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak, we have taken the very difficult decision to temporarily close Holywell Bay Golf.

We believe it is the only responsible option to take in order to help safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff, and the wider local community.

We will be closed throughout April and do not know currently when we will be able to re-open, but will provide further updates as soon as we can.

Open all year round the course is the latest addition to Holywell Bay Golf and Trevornick Holiday Park Manager Adrian is hoping families will swing into action this summer.

“Our 18-hole par 3 course and the pitch and putt courses are hugely popular, but we wanted to offer families with little one’s something and possibly inspire a future generation of golfers to take up the sport.”

“The new Mini Golf course has been really fun to create and myself and the team had a great time when we trialled it for the first time,” he added.

The ‘must have’ kit for any golfer!

August 2, 2016 //  by Niamh//  Leave a Comment

Here at Holywell Bay Golf we have a ‘no dress code’ policy so all you really need are a set of clubs (which are included in the price) and golf balls (available from the shop for a 50p deposit). However we’ve thought of a few essentials that are handy to have on the golf course, some of them might even make you play a better game!

  1. Spare golf balls – it might seem obvious but you will need more than you think!
  2. Umbrella – we do like to think of Cornwall being the sunshine county; however it quite often rains…or pours –a good umbrella will mean that you can stay on the course during all weather (and it can be used for shade during a heatwave).
  3. Pencils or pen for keeping your score – don’t rely on your friend’s memory they will make sure that you lose!
  4. A golf ball marker. Refer to point 1!
  5. A towel to clean the mud off your clubs – ok! It’s only a suggestion you might not need it.
  6. Drink and snacks –it’s a good 3-4 hours round our course and we wouldn’t you getting dehydrated or hungry -it might put you off your game!
  7. If you are new to the ‘game’ you might want to take a rule book.
  8. Sun cream and sunglasses – these can be used to disguise the disappointment in your eyes when you lose or the smugness when you win.

All that’s left now, is to book your round. Do it online here and you can save 10%.

See you on the course!

Woody’s food Blog

July 20, 2016 //  by Niamh//  Leave a Comment

Woody’s Bar at Holywell Bay is renowned for its laid back relaxed style – the perfect place to hang out after a round of golf! The mouth-watering menu has lots to choose from, including Tikki Masala and classic burgers with lots of tempting sweet treats to follow.

These are our favourites here at Woody’s:

Starters
Its is without a doubt got to be the garlic mushrooms coated in breadcrumbs served with a creamy garlic mayonnaise; These two were meant to be together. The perfect combination all year round, they are the best when you have been out playing golf all day! If you’re not feeling hungry enough for a main course, then these are the perfect snack! But watch out, they are seriously moreish!

Mains
It’s a classic but you really cant’ beat it – we love the char-grilled 12oz gammon served with chips, fried egg and pineapple – it even contains one of your five a day! Sourced locally and freshly prepared, our chef will go the extra mile to make sure that you will want to come back for this dish time and time again.

Desert
Not the easiest category to pick from, but we’ve settled on the chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake – we probably don’t need to explain why!! This chocolaty rich cheesecake is like normal cheesecake, only better; we are not sure ifs it’s the cookie dough enhancement or the view whilst eating, it but either way it’s won us over.

To book a table for lunch or dinner call us on 01637 832916 or email golf@holywellbay.co.uk Or pop in throughout the day for a cool beverage (soft or something a bit stronger!) or coffee with your friends.

How we do golf at Holywell Bay

July 20, 2016 //  by Niamh//  Leave a Comment

Holywell Bay is an 18-hole, Par 3 golf course that provides a competitive course for golfers of all standards. We like to think that we do golf a bit differently and make golf simple, flexible and accessible. Here’s how:

There is no dress code; unlike other clubs we like to thing that we are pretty relaxed here and so jeans and a t-shirt is fine, you can also bring your dog (as long as its well behaved and on a lead).

Fun Friday Dog

You can pay and play; there is no booking required for our 18 hole par 3 golf course which means you can just weather check and turn up to enjoy the panoramic views and laid back golfing experience that Holywell Bay offers. All prices include club hire so it’s the perfect club to try golf if the sport is new to you.

It’s a family game; Families can enjoy a great day out with us on the pitch and putt course that is 18 holes of challenging fairways, deluxe greens and views of the Atlantic ocean. Why not make a day of it and visit our Fun Park next door and Holywell Bay beach as well. There is no booking fee and club hire is included in our price. Prices start from 7.50 per person.

Everyday is a golfing day at Hollywell Bay; we are open all year from dusk to dawn, every day except Christmas Day so if you can plan your golf days to suit your lifestyle or even play impromptu games if the sun is out and sky is blue.

You won’t get rained off; Our course is built on a sand dune that acts as a fantastic natural drainage system even on the biggest down pours. So if it’s raining, bring your wellies, bring you umbrella, get out there and embrace the British weather! You wont regret it.

The clubhouse is great; Woody’s diner has the best of both worlds, it overlook Gull Rocks for those summer evenings when you want to enjoy the sunset but it also has a supersize wood burner for those cold winter days when you want to get cosy and enjoy a hot chocolate after a day on the course. With a mouth-watering menu and no fuss kids meals it a must visit when at Holywell Bay Golf Club,
